Seventeen Injured In Dalton Accident

 

A bakkie with a canopy transporting seventeen people lost control on a district road near to the R614 in Dalton this evening.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the bakkie on its side with the canopy sheared off and the occupants of the vehicle found lying near to the accident scene.

Amongst the seventeen patients were three babies aged between three months and five months. They had sustained minor cuts and abrasions. Four other people had suspected neck and back injuries. The remaining patients were treated for minor to moderate injuries. All patients were transported to various hospitals in Pietermaritzburg for further medical care.

It is unclear what causes the driver to lose control of the bakkie but the local authorities were on the scene and would investigate.
