Three men have been injured after the vehicle that they were traveling in overturned and landed on the verge next to the road. The accident happened as the vehicle was traveling on the R57 onto the N1 highway in the direction of Johannesburg in the area of Drakeville AH. The on ramp to the highway curves around, and it seems that the driver lost control as he was approaching the highway.
The Hyundai 1-ton bakkie was towing a fully laden trailer and the contents were strewn across the grass on the left hand side of the road. The driver, a 23 year old man, had been ejected from the vehicle and he was found lying a significant way away from where the vehicle lay on its side. He had suffered a broken arm and a suspected serious back injury as well as multiple other soft tissue injuries. Paramedics called in the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to airlift the young man to the Chris Hani Baragawanth Hospital in Soweto for further appropriate medical care.
The two other men, one aged in his early 20`s and the other in his late 30`s, who were also traveling in the bakkie, were found walking around the scene. Paramedics treated them for their injuries and they were both taken to Sebokeng Hospital in a stable condition.
There had been no other vehicles involved in the accident.
Police who attended the accident will conduct the necessary investigations into the cause.
