A driver is in a serious condition and his passenger sustained minor injuries after they were ejected from the delivery vehicle on the N3 Pietermaritzburg bound near to Lynnfield Park this afternoon.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and found the delivery vehicle on its side and had complete damage to the entire vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was found lying next to the road. He was accessed and paramedics suspected a head injury and possible neck and back injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient before he was placed on a specialised board. The passenger was found walking around on the scene and was assessed and found that he had suffered minor cuts and bruises to his body. Both patients were transported to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg for further medical intervention.
It is believed that the vehicle may have had some sort of mechanical problem, which caused the driver to lose control. The delivery vehicle is believed to have rolled numerous times causing the two occupants to be ejected from the vehicle.
Traffic was affected due the accident but the necessary authorities were on the scene and were able to control the traffic flow while paramedics were busy on the scene.
