Collision in Farramere leaves boy (8) with severe injuries

A collision took place on Main Road in Farramere, Benoni, at around 7:45 this morning, leaving three patients with various injuries.
An emergency vehicle was allegedly on the way to an emergency when near the intersection of Bayley street, it collided with a civilian vehicle. In the Toyota Yaris was a mom and her eight year old son who was on his way to school. The collision cause the Yaris to roll and it landed at the side of the road on its roof.
When paramedics arrived, they found the young boy, in his school uniform, lying outside of the vehicle on the ground. It is not clear as yet as to whether he had been ejected or had been assisted out of the wreckage.
The boy had suffered broken bones in his face, as well as a broken leg and he received immediate treatment by paramedics and was transported to hospital by ambulance. His mom had suffered moderate injuries and both patients were taken to the Glynnwood hospital for care.
One of the crew from the emergency vehicle had suffered moderate injuries and they too were taken to hospital, the second crew member did not need further medical care and remained at the scene.
Investigations into the crash will be conducted by local authorities.

Man injured in Witfield collision

 

On Wednesday the 22nd May 2013 at around 8pm ER24 paramedics were called to Griffiths road in Witfield for a motor vehicle accident.

 

On arrival paramedics found that a light motor vehicle had been side impacted by a bakkie.

 

The driver and only occupant of the light motor vehicle was still inside and on initial assessment the man believed to be in his 50′s had sustained severe injuries and was in a critical condition, he was immediately stabilized on scene before being transported by ER24 to Tambo Memorial hospital for further care.

 

There were no further injuries on scene.

The circumstances of the accident would be investigated by the local authorities.

Two men die after bakkie rolls on the R59

At around 11:30 this morning, paramedics and rescuers responded to the scene of a serious accident.

 

A 1 ton Hyundai bakkie that was travelling on the R59 in the direction of Johannesburg when just after the Blockhouse rest stop, it appears that there had been some form of mechanical failure of the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and the bakkie then rolled.

 

Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the bakkie had rolled off the road and had landed in the veld on its roof.

 

Four men around the age of 40 had been travelling in the bakkie at the time; three in the front cabin and one in the open load bed compartment. One of the men in the cabin and the man that had been on the back of the bakkie sadly did not survive their injuries and they were declared dead on scene. They had suffered multiple and severe injuries and they had dies prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.

 

The driver had suffered only minor injuries and he did not go to hospital by ambulance. The remaining patient suffered moderate injuries and he was transported under Advanced Life Support care to a nearby hospital by ambulance.

 

There had been no other vehicles involved in the accident, and local authorities at the scene will conduct investigation into the cause.

Cyclist Killed In Durbanville

A cyclist believed to in mid-thirties has been killed after being knocked down by a bus at the corners of Durban and Everseal Road in Durbanville this morning.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the man in the road with the bus just a few meters away. Paramedics assessed the patient and found he had sustained very traumatic and fatal injuries and was declared deceased on scene.

The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.

Bus Carrying Special Needs Children Over Turned In Pietermaritzburg

A bus carrying special needs children has over turned on a district road near Taylor’s Halt just outside of Pietermaritzburg has left forty six children injured this morning.

ER24 paramedics and other emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the bus lying on its side near to a river bed. The community had already started taking the children out of the bus when paramedics arrived on the scene. Paramedics assessed the children and found they all had sustained various injuries. One child was in a critical condition after sustaining a head injury and possible neck and back injuries. The AER24 Medicopter was called to the scene to help airlift the patient to Grey’s Hospital for rapid medical care.

The remaining patients were stabilised on scene and transported to various hospitals in the area for further medical care.

The circumstances around the accident would be investigated by the local authorities.

Five injured in Cosmo City collision

 

At around 7pm last night, a serious collision on South Africa Drive in Cosmo City, Randburg, has left five people injured.

 

A sedan had collided into the side of a construction truck that was carrying a load of bricks. It appears that the truck had been stationary at the side of the road after mechanical failure. The driver had been underneath the truck at the time of the collision, but he had fortunately not been too badly injured.

 

In the sedan had been three men and a woman. The driver of the sedan was no longer on the scene when paramedics arrived, but despite his removal of himself from the scene it was clear that he too had been injured as evidence suggested that he was bleeding profusely. It is still not clear as to where the patient went or as to whether he has since received appropriate medical attention.

 

The man who was sitting in the front passenger seat was also severely injured. It was suspected that he had sustained multiple injuries as well as a head injury and he was taken to hospital by ambulance under Advanced Life Support care.

 

The woman and man who had been sitting in the back passenger seats required treatment for moderate injuries and they too were taken to hospital in a stable condition by ambulance.

Four Dead, Two Critical In N12 Witbank Accident

A horrific accident on the N12 about 35km outside of Witbank near to the Ogies on ramp involving a truck and a car has left four people dead and two others in a critical condition in the late part of yesterday evening.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found a truck off to the side of the road with the car a few meters in front with extensive damage to the vehicle and the passengers strewn across the road.

Three adults and three children were in the car at the time of the accident. Two children had unfortunately had already succumbed to their injuries and were declared deceased on scene.

Three adults and one child were in a critical condition. One of the adults is five months pregnant. They had suffered poly trauma injuries and needed Advanced Life Support intervention. All patients were transported to the provincial hospital for further medical care.

Unfortunately the pregnant patient patient passed away before reaching hospital due to her injuries. The child passed away in hospital shortly after arriving in the trauma unit.

It’s believed that the car had broken down on the N12 when the truck slammed into the back of the car. The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.

Pedestrian knocked down on Plattekloof

 

Just before 8am this morning, paramedics responded to the scene of a collision that had taken place on Plattekloof road on the bridge over the N1 in Parow.

 

Upon arrival at the scene, paramedics found that a 52 year old man had been knocked over by an Opel Corsa utility vehicle. The man had suffered extensive injuries and he was loaded into the waiting ambulance and transported under Advanced Life Support care to Tygerberg hospital. He had suffered multiple broken bones and a possible head injury.

 

Fortunately the occupants of the Corsa were not injured in the collision.

 

Local police will need to investigate the details as to who was at fault in the cause of the collision.

One Dead, Two Critical In N3 Durban Accident

One person has died and two other people are in a critical condition after the Bakkie they were traveling in left the road and rolled off the N3 Durban bound and N2 south bound interchange and landed on the N3 Durban bound freeway late yesterday evening.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the Bakkie on the N3 Durban bound in the middle lane with extensive damage to the vehicle and two occupants found strewn on the N3 and the other patient on the N2 North bound. All three occupants are believed to be in their mid to late twenties.

The patient on the N2 north bound was declared deceased on scene due to traumatic and fatal injuries he had sustained in the accident. The two other patients were in a critical condition after sustaining poly trauma injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patients before being transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

The necessary authorities were on scene and would investigate the accident further.

Driver Dies In R31 Kuruman Accident

[Kuruman, NC - 19 May 2013]

A single vehicle accident on the Hotazel and R31 in Kuruman has left one person dead and another with minor injuries in the late part of yesterday evening.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the light motor vehicle believed to be a Jetta off to the side of the road with extensive damage to the vehicle. Paramedics found to occupants in the vehicle and quickly assessed them. Unfortunately the male patient believed to be in his mid-thirties had suffered very traumatic and fatal injuries and was declared deceased on scene. The passenger, a female had sustained minor injuries.

It is believed the driver lost control and collided with the Armco barrier before rolling numerous times. The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
